Our Children Are Watching

It was a rather Dickensonian weekend, filled with both new memories and utter heartbreak. I don’t expect perfection and know that there is no real end to the work we all do daily, but the juxtaposition was on full display for the past few days. If you will indulge me, dear reader(s)...

At Forward Inheritance, we are in the business of helping families. We do this by providing a platform to store, secure, and share a family’s legacy as well as help them make and save more money. We believe in better family financial conversations, with transparency and accountability, that lead to better family financial outcomes. And we believe that the professionals who help families should have a more holistic view of the family so that they can serve them better.

This mission has been driving me and the team for almost two years now. It is incredibly fulfilling when a family goes, “Where has this been my whole life?!” And it is heartbreaking when a friend says, “Wow, I could have really used this a few years ago when my Dad died…” We are hearing all of the stories of need and are here to serve your family with our Inheritance Portal.

So where am I going with this? This weekend, I was able to hug some dear, old friends whom I don’t see often enough. There was a heavy conversation about what to do about a family member in the hospital. There was a family dinner filled with Walley World laughter and hugs. There was a serious estate conversations I had to have with my Dad. There were sportsballs moments of joy and anguish. There was an attempt to count how many times we hit a rock with a stick in a field (aka, play golf).

Given the heaviness of what we encounter daily, sometimes it can be hard to go again. Given the chaos in the world, sometimes it can be hard to prioritize and execute. Given the whipsaw of a seemingly mundane life, sometimes it can be hard to remember that we can only control what we can control.

For me, I like to remind myself that my children are watching. This helps me remember why we do what we do, to pick myself up, and to go again. Our children are watching, and don’t they deserve a better life than was given to us? Our children are watching. We can make it so. We can have our legacies endure. We can move our families and our lives forward, together…
